Covid App

Covid 19 App

Introduction

When brainstorming for this app I wanted to design something that was different to all the other apps that are out there. Instead of focusing purely on vaccine records, test results or information about case numbers, I wanted my app to focus on the wellness and recovery of covid 19 patients. This app allows patients to track and monitor their symptoms while giving professional advice on how best to recover. I took many considerations while building the app's concept, such as the target audience (people who are sick) so I wanted it to be simple to use and not too overwhelming.

UML use cases

1. The Covid-19 patient first logins into the app and must enter their password to access

2. They can then select an option to a) log symptoms b) check their quarantine status c) understand local laws d) explore meditation

3. For option a) log symptoms, a checklist of common covid symptoms will be listed once all the relevant symptoms have been selected, the app will assess the symptoms based on information provided to the app by health officials and recovery advice will be given

4. For option b) check quarantine status, a progress bar with the number of days remaining will be displayed. This will be calculated based on the date of first positive test and the government restrictions in place at that time

5. For option c) understand local laws, this option will ask for a zip code to provide the most relevant advice from local governments. There will be options to learn about mask mandates and travel restrictions etc.

6. For option d) explore meditation there will be a number of relaxing activities to help reduce stress and improve recovery.

 2. MVP prioritization

Prioritization of use cases:

a) logging symptoms

b) checking quarantine status

c) explore meditation

d) understand local laws

I have prioritised the “logging symptoms” use case as the MVP.

I would choose to build “logging symptoms” use case as the MVP. There is a lot of conflicting and confusing information about covid symptoms and covid recovery options. Having one reliable source of information for each stage of recovery would be extremely helpful to patients.

3. MVP: Logging symptoms case

For this section I have provided a brief user journey and some very basic designs to illustrate my thought process.

As a covid-19 patient, I want to log my symptoms, so that I can determine best course of action for my recovery.

Once a patient discovers they have covid-19 they will then set up an account and log their symptoms for day 1. For each subsequent day a notification will alert them to input their symptoms.

Once the symptoms are added, the condition of the patient will be categorized into mild, moderate, or severe. There will be medical suggestion on how to care for yourself in each scenario. For example, you have a slight cough and runny nose, you would be considered to have mild symptoms, suggestion would be to have Advil and rest.

At this point they can continue to view data from other users eg. What percentage of other users felt this way at the same stage of recovery.

Conclusion
To conclude, this new Covid app would solve the problem a lot of people are facing when they have Covid, as it removes the confusion and stress of knowing what exactly they should be doing at each stage of their recovery. Additionally, the focus of the app will be on wellness and recovery rather than Covid-19 as the virus.
